Second-harmonic generation in planar waveguides of doped silica.

Second-harmonic generation was produced in germanium-doped silica planar waveguides prepared by simulfaneous illumination with 1064- and 532-nm laser light. During preparation using prism coupling to specific waveguiding modes, the film-generated second-harmonic intensity grew as a function of preparation time until it saturated. The growth rate and saturation level for p-polarized second-harmo...

Second-harmonic generation in vortex-induced waveguides.

We study the second-harmonic generation and localization of light in a reconfigurable waveguide induced by an optical vortex soliton in a defocusing Kerr medium. We show that the vortex-induced waveguide greatly improves conversion efficiency from the fundamental to the second-harmonic field.

Second-harmonic generation

The goal of this experiment in nonlinear optics is to study the conversion of a (very small) fraction of laser light from its original wavelength of 980 nm (i.e. invisible to the naked eye) to its second-harmonic at a wavelength of 490 nm. This conversion takes place by mild focussing of an intense laser beam in a nonlinear birefringent crystal of BBO (= β BaBO4). You will study the physical pr...

Field-gradient-induced second-harmonic generation in magnetized vacuum

The photon-photon scattering in vacuum can give rise to the second-harmonic generation of intense laser radiation in a dc magnetic field in the ‘‘box’’ diagram approximation of quantum electrodynamics if the symmetry of interaction is broken by modulation or/and nonuniformity of optical wave 1dc field system in time or/and space. Specific examples considered here are: an optical pulse plane wav...

Electric-field-induced second-harmonic generation in GaN devices.

Electric-field-induced second-harmonic generation is used to detect electric fields in a GaN UV Schottky photodiode and in a GaN light-emitting diode. The second-harmonic signal is measured as a function of bias voltage and incident laser power. This technique is sensitive to small applied voltages and can be used to track electronic waveforms. The photocurrent generated by this technique is fo...
